Recipe for the Perfect Bouncy Blowdry...

Posted on
There’s nothing better than the feeling of a bouncy perfected blow dry - well the great news is that you don't necessarily have to be a hairdresser to achieve the perfect bouncy blowout. Obviously we’d always recommend a hairdresser being your best port of call for those dreamy locks you want - however when you're trying to save the pennies, going to the salon every three days isn't always an option. Getting a perfect blow dry at home is actually pretty easy though, you just need the right tools, right product and the right technique...

THE TOOLS

The Right Dryer...

.
Look for at least 2000w and multiple heat and air settings. Medium heat is best for pre-drying hair whereas high heat manipulates the hairs shape and the air sets the style. Also, don’t forget a nozzle. This is key in creating a smooth finish and stops the hair from getting too close to the heat!

The Right Brush...

.
For straightening strands, make ends flip or creating waves. A brush such as the Head Jog Heat Wave brushes have a red strip that changes colour if you are overheating the hair.

Sectioning Clips...

For keeping layers separate and making the hair easier to manage to prevent damage caused by over drying sections.

THE PRODUCT

If you want to add thickness and volume, you will want to distribute a flexible hold mousse through damp towel dried hair before starting to dry the hair. To tame frizz and smooth the hair whilst adding body, use a volumising cream. Use 2-3 pumps on the lengths of the hair before blow drying. For adding lift and setting the hair, use a strong hold hair spray. A spray with humidity resistant properties is the best choice to keep your blow out super smooth and avoid unwanted frizz.

THE PROCESS

Step 1: Prep...

After washing the hair with a shampoo and conditioner that are suited to your hair type it is actually best to let the hair dry naturally as much as possible. Rough dry the hair, without a nozzle, to remove excess moisture.
.

Step 2: Product...

It goes without saying that if you're using heat styling tools then you will need a heat defence spray. Add your mousse at the root for volume and boost, or a volumising cream for smoothing and adding volume.
.

Step 3: Main Event...

You'll want to start by working the hair into sections from the nape of your neck upwards so it's easier to work with. For creating volume you should dry the hair in the opposite direction to where it usually falls. Use the round brush to lift the hair at the root blowing underneath the hair for maximum volume. After drying the roots pull the brush down the lengths rolling the ends for smooth bouncy curls.
.

Step 4: Aftercare...

To keep that bouncy blow in place, use a fine mist of hairspray. To prolong a blowdry, make sure you sleep with your hair in a loose high bun secured with one clip to ensure there are no kinks.
